Most existing knobs are 2-1/8-inch bore, which is the modern standard, so the swap is fast: 20 minutes per opening at $95–$165 each. We re-key the locks to match the existing key if the keyed-side lever has a cylinder.
Doorway widening for future walker or wheelchair use is the most-requested aging-in-place modification we do. The standard interior door in older LA homes is 30 inches wide; ADA-compliant doorways need 32 inches clear (which means a 34-inch door slab and frame). Widening from 30 to 34 typically requires removing the existing trim, cutting back the studs and header, installing a new door slab and frame, and re-trimming.
